Gerry referred to the great tradition within the Club which was formed in 1955. The average number of years service was 17, and overall we had given 2,500 years service. He outlined that our community would be a lot poorer without Rotary, and made reference to the many projects we had supported in the local area, along with the contribution made to young people through the Youth Leadership/Young Chef competitions.

With regards to Membership, time is the biggest competitor to people joining Rotary. A number of years ago Rotarians were requested to have two thirds attendance over the year, if this target was not reached, members were asked to leave. The model has now changed, with members required to provide 12 hours service per half year. Membership within District 1160 has dropped from 3,000 to 2,000 within the last ten years.

The Club is good at supporting the Rotary charities, H20 is the current charity. Foundation continues to support Polio Eradication, to date this year there are no cases reported.

In June 2017 the Rotary Centenary Convention is being held in Atlanta, 40,000 people are expected to attend this event. Coca Cola is the main sponsor of this event - they are the number 1 commercial brand, and Rotary is the number 1 Service organisation.

Gerry thanked the Club for his invitation to speak to the Club and also complimented them on the recent Rotary Ball, it was the largest gathering he has been to during his presidential year. Gifts were exchanged between DG Gerry and President Kenny.
