On the evening of 24th April 2013, the foundation committee of The Rotary Club of Enniskillen held a charity event to raise funds for our local Samaritans.

The evening commenced with a delicious meal, followed by a presentation from Lembit Öpik, who entertained our audience with his witty banter, during which time he achieved great audience participation and laughter. The main event of the evening was “Lembit Öpik presents Alex Best (The Best Years)” Lembit interviewed Alex on stage and showed slides to illustrate his questions, which centred around Alex’s early career, her first meeting with the late great George Best, their marriage and life together. Alex was very open with her answers and revealed a lot about their lives together but mostly of her great love for George.
The evening was supported by over 150 attendees and together with the proceeds from a raffle and auction we realised over £2,000 for the Samaritans. Although the event was organised by the clubs foundation committee, we felt that it is important to help local voluntary organisations, who through their work do help to advance understanding and goodwill by high lighting the problems and misunderstandings, created by mental health issues in today’s’ society.
