Past President John Trimble
John Trimble has been a Rotarian most of his business life and again has contributed his time, talent and money to encompass the Rotary goal of tangible and significant assistance for the furtherance of better understanding and friendly relations among peoples of the world.
This award goes in some small way to acknowledge the dedication and time given to these Rotary projects. He brought many ideas to our club and all ambitious to say the least. Our now well established Santa Mobile was his brainchild and through his determination he stimulated interest in the project and was able to unearth the skill and craftmanship of Rotarian Wilfie Mahood in the process.
During his very busy work schedule and striving to survive in a stressful and competitive business environment he always had time for Rotary. He served as Secretary in 2000-2001 and was President of this club 2004-5 when he instigated raising over £5,000 which went immediately for relief when disaster struck the shores of the Indian Ocean on Boxing Day 2004. More recently his work has necessitated much travelling which for a time frustrated his interest and attendance at meetings but as soon as pressures eased he was at it again.
This year he took on the chair of Foundation, organised the planting of thousands of Crocus bulbs on the main Belfast road. Rotary's polo eradication programme will benefit from this project. The next thing he was off to France on the 'Beaujolais Run' from which the Chest, Heart and Stroke will benefit to the tune of £10,000.
He is a very worthy recipient of the Paul Harris Fellowship.
